Today's tracks, courtesy of Rich Pearson of CASA New Jersey:
  • Jon McLemore, guitar guy, goes a cappella on two tracks: "Wendy" and "Leave Me Alone," both from his self-titled album.
  • A stack of tracks from Northern Harmony, a Canadian a cappella competition compilation. (No songs about ice hockey or beer, unfortunately--) Listen for "Wasted Time" from Asani, "Maritome Folk Song" from long-time faves The Heebee-Jeebees, "I'm There" from The Polyesters, the classic "House on Pooh Corner" from Standing Room Only and two tracks from Sven Blvd., "Ain't Necessarily So" and "Love Comes Our Way" (this last track nabbed Best Original Song).

New tunes (many added on December 16, a few added just last week, a few added today!):
  • A few Christmas tracks (soon to be moved to their own Christmas station, I think), all from the Jubliation Singers: 'Joy to the World," "Silent Night," "Ding Dong! Merrily on High, "Carol of the Bells," "Winter Wonderland," "White Christmas," and "What Child is This." These are all off A Jubliation Christmas.
  • Yes, of course, more Rockapella Christmas tracks, from Rockapella 5: Out Cold: "Secret Santa," "Christmas Ceasefire," and "The Christmas Song."
  • AC Rock brings us a bunch of sharp covers: "Abracadabra," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Desperado," "You Might Think," and most interestingly, "Runaway." (Listen for the modulation on the chorus in that last track... very Cher's "Believe," don't you think?) All these songs from the solid album Guaranteed to Satisfy.
  • From Canada, off The Euphorics' Standing Up for Love, "Tell Them Before it's Too Late," "Standing Up for Love," and "Message in a Bottle."
  • Next we go down under to hear Australia's The Idea of North, debuting on A Cappella Always with "Straight To My Heart" and "Fragile."
  • "It's All About Me" and "More" from Ball in the House and their new album, The Way It Has To Be.
  • The University of Virginia New Dominions' most recent CD, Live and Let Da, lends "Something in the Way She Moves" and "Hot Stuff." Hot stuff, indeed!
  • Finally, a sampling of tracks from one of the best compilations I've seen in years, Come Together - An A Cappella Tribute to the Beatles, from Hot Lips Records. Every track's a winner here, and it was hard to pick just three to feature... ultimately I settled on The Swingle Singers' "Yesterday," Kickshaw's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and Beachfront Property's lovely, clean cover of "Blackbird."

  • Ok, it's been a while— updates have been going in but I haven't added the notes on this page. That's changing today or tomorrow. In the meantime, though, I did want you to know about the huge tenth anniversary sale at Mainely A Cappella... literally hundreds of CDs are on sale, and it's a great opportunity to beef up your a cappella library.
