All are from their album Here To Stay: Gershwin & Jobim.

- From Brian Free & Assurance comes a traditional, stirring "Foundation Medley," off their Live in New York City.

- Long-time faves M-Pact bring us three new songs from their self-titled release: "Over the Rainbow" (featuring Elyse Materson), "Baby I Need Your Loving" and "Northwest Passage."

- Off the 2006 Harmony Sweepstakes disc, listen for the live recording of Clockwork performing Radiohead's "Creep." Talk about building to a crescendo... they really go there.

- Realtime, the 2005 International Quartet Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society, bring us a solid Barbershop track: "Waltz for Debby." A cappella music often has quiet passages and tight, razor-sharp harmonies... subtleties which were often lost because of the scratchy, "lo-fi" way the station was being broadcast. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't terrific, either.

Due to limitations of the technology I have been using to broadcast A Cappella Always and A Cappella Holiday, I couldn't do much to improve the sound quality. Until now.

I've changed the station so the the quality of the broadcast is much, much better. This change also requires that you have a broadband connection (like DSL, a cable modem or just listening to the station at work or school) but I think that requirement is worth it. Back in 2001, broadband connections were expensive and uncommon... these days, even my 67-year-old Dad has a $19.95 DSL connection coming into his house. So I don't think this is a big limitation.

(And even better, if you are a "VIP" subscriber to Live365, which costs as little as US$5/mo, you can use their "mp3Pro" player to listen to the music at CD quality. But you don't need to subscribe to enjoy the higher-quality broadcast feed.)

As of today, A Cappella Always is on the new higher-quality feed, and I'll be changing over A Cappella Holiday in the next few weeks as I add fresh holiday music to the mix.

Thanks you for your continued support and listening!

Just added tracks from Quicksand, from the Penny Loafers of U Penn. Their two CDs an evening in december (volumes one and two) are something of a legend... as a-cappella.com explains about volume one, "this Tennessee trio of studio singers and friends created this opus of a Christmas album in 1985, not knowing just how popular it would become in the a cappella community - and how sad so many people would be when it went missing for a while. Thankfully, Discovery House Music picked it back up in 2005." I have tracks from both discs, and you should listen for a couple a fun medleys, "Caroling, Caroling," "How Great Our Joy!," "I Heard the Bells," and a fun take on The Twelve Days of Christmas, titled, appropriately enough, "The New Twelve Days of Christmas."

I'm working on getting more holiday music on A Cappella Holiday so if you have a favorite a cappella holiday CD, please let me know about it... So, sorry about that, but I hope you've been enjoying:

- Ryan Noakes of Canada's Broken 5th sent me a nice note and a copy of a CD that he put together, The "Broken" Compilation. Listen for "Blackbird" and the old spiritual "Siyahamba."

- Off Cadence's new CD Twenty For One, listen up for a rockin' "The Things We Do For Love."

- The jokers at Moosebutter are back with their full-length release Udder Won and I'm playing the fun track "Rubber Monkey."

- From 1993, the Great Northern Union Chorus harmonizes on a lovely "Broadway Star Medley," off Evolution.

- From the latest John Wesley Harding project, Love Hall Tryst, "The Abandoned Baby" off their concept CD Songs of Misfortune. (All songs are morbid British folk tunes-- or in that style-- and in total, depict 13 gruesome deaths across the eleven tracks...)

- Finally, on a lighter note :-) the ever-popular Groove Society brings us "You're No Good," a "Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire" and a light cover of Gershwin's "Summertime." So cool that really solid, rich a cappella jazz is coming out of Russia.

- From Select, the Saint Paul Seven brings us a very patriotic George M. Cohan medley, and also a nice five-part arrangement of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."

And while I was at it, added some new holiday tracks to A Cappella Holiday from Germany's Die Prinzen, and a bunch of great stuff from Encore (courtesy Dr. Kirby Shaw!).

Many thanks again to the folks at Apple, who chose A Cappella Holiday as just one of three stations to be featured in the iTunes Radio "Holiday" channel.
